Klopp's men stumble but manage to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light

Liverpool beat Sunderland 0-1 on Wednesday to give themselves 2 wins going into 2016, despite some nervy moments late on.

The first half was mainly dominated by Liverpool, as Firmino hit the post with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area. Also Clyne did force the black cats' goalkeeper Vito Mannone into a save with a long range effort.
Jermain Defoe troubled the Reds in the first half with a long range effort that was well saved by Simon Mignolet. Despite efforts from both sides neither side could find the breakthrough in the first half.
Christian Benteke however, did make the breakthrough after only 30 seconds of the second half kicking off after a through ball from Adam Lallana. It wasn't all smiles for Benteke because, like against Leicester he missed a great one on one chance in the last few moments of the match.

Overall it was a tough hard-fought win for the Reds which moves them level on points with Man United which is a real plus point for Liverpool's season.

Mignolet: 8/10
Clyne 8/10

Liverpool's five match winning run is stopped by a resurrected Newcastle side

Klopp's men were beaten 2-0 at St James Park with Skrtel scoring an own goal in the 69th minute and Wijnaldum scored in the last 5 minutes of the match to seal the win.

I thought that the Reds were poor today and certainly missed Emre Can in midfield, his size and presence would have been a great help as the midfield of Newcastle dominated Liverpool's throughout the match.

The Reds didn't show enough fight and urgency to get a goal and put pressure on the Newcastle defence. Skrtel's own goal was unfortunate but Wijnaldum shouldn't have been able to have enough space in the box to pull off a shot on goal. Newcastle's second goal was a counter attack at the end of the game that was scored by Wijnaldum to end Klopp's hope of gaining a point out of the match. Liverpool did have a goal wrongly ruled out for offside but I thought the Reds didn't deserve a goal and didn't deserve to gain a point out of the game.

A disappointing performance couldn't have come at a worse time with Spurs and the two Manchester clubs dropping points. Klopp's side could have moved within 3 points of the top 4.

Klopp's men run riot at St Mary's

Liverpool produce a stunning 6-1 win at Southampton to progress to the semi finals of the Capital One Cup where they will face Stoke City.

I thought that the Reds made a statement tonight to the rest of the teams in the premier league with this win at Southampton even with a weaker side. We came from 1-0 down inside the first minute and battled back to emphatically win. Liverpool had a weaker side which shows their strength in depth and the quality they can produce when the team needs to be rotated.
Daniel Sturridge's return to the starting line up was a real positive and also scoring 2 goals which sent a smile to every Liverpool fan. Divock Origi in my opinion was man of the match, scoring 3 goals and producing a fine display all around to help Klopp's men to a win.
The Reds are now shaping up to be a quality side under Klopp and I feel that he can lead Liverpool to many trophies. If Klopp can get his side to produce these performance at home, Liverpool can most certainly get the champions league places.

Brazilian magic sparkles in Manchester

Liverpool beat Manchester City 4-1 at the  Eithiad Stadium on Saturday which gave the Reds a massive 3 points.
Klopp trusted the same team (barring Sakho) that beat Chelsea earlier in the month with Roberto Firmino playing as the lone front man for Liverpool.
It worked a treat as the Reds raced into a 3-0 lead just after 30 minutes. Liverpool outplayed Man City, producing fantastic football that the City defenders couldn't cope with. Overall Klopp's back four was solid thoroughout apart from a mistake from Skrtel which handed the ball to Sergio Aguero who put city back in the game at 1-3. Skrtel made up for his mistake by smashing in the forth and rounding off a superb win for the Reds.
Dejan Lovren was a real plus point for Liverpool as he looked like a real leader at the back and defended brilliantly from start to finish.
My man of the match goes to Roberto Firmino, his creativity and link up with Coutinho was sublime; he scored and set up a goal for his fellow Brazilian.

My Player Ratings:
Mignolet 8/10
Clyne 7/10
Skrtel 8/10

Klopp loses for the first time as poor defending costs Liverpool

Crystal Palace have out-played Liverpool at Anfield for the second consecutive season as they take a 2-1 win away from Anfield.

A poor opening to the match saw Liverpool concede a sloppy first goal, Emre Can could not clear the ball in the area which then fell to the feet of Yannick Bolasie who struck home from 10 yards to give Palace an deserved lead. Palace's wingers proved a problem for the Reds with Zaha and Sako causing problems for Clyne and Moreno.
Just before the break Liverpool did equalise after some good build up play from Clyne he played pass towards Adam Lallana who back-heeled it to Coutinho who shot passed Wayne Hennessy in the Palace goal.
In the second half Klopp's men couldn't find the finishing touch with numerous chances wasted. The missed chances proved costly as with 9 minutes to go Scott Dann scored at the Anfield Road end to hand Palace and impressive away win.

My major concern about Liverpool is our defending mainly from set pieces. I feel that we look nervy as a side when defending corners no person takes command and it was proven on Palace's second goal when Dann was surrounded by 5 Liverpool players but still managed to score from the corner.

My Player ratings:
Mignolet 6/10
Clyne 5/10
Skrtel 5/10
Sakho 5/10

Pressure mounts on Mourinho as Klopp registers his first league win

Liverpool rise to 7th in the Barclays Premier League table as they beat an out of form Chelsea side 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds didn't get off to the best start as Ramires pounced on some bad defending from Liverpool to score with just 3 minutes on the clock. Even though Chelsea scored early on, they didn't register another shot in the first half which Liverpool dominated. Phillipe Coutinho finished well from the edge of the area with his right foot on the stroke of half time to level the scores.

After the break, Liverpool still dominated proceedings playing some great football but couldn't find the breakthrough until Benteke came off the bench and set up Coutinho who's shot deflected off John Terry and went into the back off the net to give Liverpool the lead. Coutinho's second goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Chelsea, which created more chances for Liverpool and one chance was turned home by Benteke to seal the victory in the 84th minute.

It was a great performance all round for Liverpool and this win will hopefully give them confidence going into matches vs Rubin Kazan and Crystal Palace next week.

Klopp's heart is broken as Saints snatch a late point at Anfield

Another game, another draw. It's now 8 draws out of their last 9 games as Liverpool conceded an 86th minute equaliser from Saido Mane to ruin Jurgen Klopp's first home league game in charge. They face Bournemouth next in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday with Klopp looking for his first win.

A lacklustre first half showed how much the Reds miss Sturridge up front with hardly any movement from Divock Origi and no creativity from Klopp's attacking midfielders. James Milner was dropping into a right back position in order to create some opportuinties for the team.

A subsitution at half time for Liverpool changed the game in their favour, with Benteke's superb header when a great cross from captain James Milner gave Liverpool the lead after 77 minutes. Klopp's side looked in control until a free-kick from the left hand side of the pitch was floated into the box, Liverpool didn't deal with the ball which was headed back across the area and turned home by Sadio Mane in the 86th minute to break Klopp's heart.

The Reds most outstanding performer on the night was Benteke. Benteke changed the game for them with his size and presence which created a lot of chances for Liverpool. Roberto Firmino also got around 25 minutes on the pitch and he too made an impact with his energy and new ideas created some openings for Benteke and others.

On the flip side though, it was another frustrating night for Divock Origi who once again didn't deliver in the first half. Origi hardly showed movement up front on his own, he didn't link others into play, lost the ball too many times and was inevitably substituted at half time for the Liverpool goalscorer Benteke.

Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's start to his tenure as Liverpool boss ends in an 0-0 draw, with both sides unable to find the finishing touch.

My thoughts on Liverpool's performance:
Overall I thought that Liverpool played well vs Tottenham.
The Liverpool defence was sometimes troubled by the Spurs attack and most noticeably Skrtel was troubled particularly by Harry Kane. The back four did make some mistakes in possession of the ball by giving the ball away to the Spurs attack which led to shots on goal that Mignolet saved well throughout the match.
The midfield closed down well in the early part of the match, closing down and putting pressure on the Spurs midfield but did tire towards the end of the match.
Emre Can was the stand out player in the  midfield of Liverpool, picking out key passes and hitting a great shot towards the end of the match that just went wide. Adam Lallana and Phillipe Coutinho were both isolated and didn't have a great impact on the game because of the pressing from the Spurs midfield.
Most disappointing about Liverpool in this match was the perfromance of Divock Origi. Even though he hit the post in the first half, he didn't have a good game what so ever. Origi held onto the ball for too long many times that lost Liverpool possession and his hold up play was not up to scratch.

My player ratings:
Mignolet 8/10
Clyne 7/10
Skrtel 5/10
Sakho 7/10
Moreno 6/10
Lucas 6/10
Can 8/10
Milner 6/10
Coutinho 6/10
Lallana 6/10
Origi 3/10

Liverpool Injuries!

Two days away from Jurgen Klopp's first Premier League match and the new boss has already started to face problems regarding injuries.

Danny Ings and Joe Gomez have both been ruled out for the rest of the season with knee injuries. This news that broke in the last few days, is a real shame for both players, especially Danny Ings, he just earned a call up to the recent England squad and has been in good form lately. It is also a dampener on Joe Gomez' development as he was showing his talent particularly in the first few matches of the season. Nonetheless both players will be determined to fight stronger and return ready to break back into the Liverpool. I wish Joe Gomez + Danny Ings a speedy recovery.

Thank you for reading my blog, be sure to check out my next blog which will be after the Liverpool match on Saturday.

Klopp for the Kop!

It's official, Jurgen Klopp is Liverpool's new manager.

My thoughts: In my opinion Klopp is a great appointment for Liverpool FC. In the past he has won many trophies with Dortmund including two Bundesliga trophies back to back. I feel that he could lead us to many trophies if Liverpool fans stick by him then he will be a success.

However, Liverpool fans need to stick by him through the hard times, we must remember as well he may not be an instant success. Klopp may need a few games to look at the squad we have got and which players he likes/dislikes. Although if he is a success quickly then the Liverpool fans will be on his side and support him throughout his tenure at Liverpool FC
