Klopp's men stumble but manage to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light

Liverpool beat Sunderland 0-1 on Wednesday to give themselves 2 wins going into 2016, despite some nervy moments late on.

The first half was mainly dominated by Liverpool, as Firmino hit the post with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area. Also Clyne did force the black cats' goalkeeper Vito Mannone into a save with a long range effort.
Jermain Defoe troubled the Reds in the first half with a long range effort that was well saved by Simon Mignolet. Despite efforts from both sides neither side could find the breakthrough in the first half.
Christian Benteke however, did make the breakthrough after only 30 seconds of the second half kicking off after a through ball from Adam Lallana. It wasn't all smiles for Benteke because, like against Leicester he missed a great one on one chance in the last few moments of the match.

Overall it was a tough hard-fought win for the Reds which moves them level on points with Man United which is a real plus point for Liverpool's season.

My player ratings:
Mignolet: 8/10
Clyne 8/10
Lovren 8/10

Moreno 6/10
Henderson 7/10
Can 9/10 MOTM

Liverpool's five match winning run is stopped by a resurrected Newcastle side

Klopp's men were beaten 2-0 at St James Park with Skrtel scoring an own goal in the 69th minute and Wijnaldum scored in the last 5 minutes of the match to seal the win.

I thought that the Reds were poor today and certainly missed Emre Can in midfield, his size and presence would have been a great help as the midfield of Newcastle dominated Liverpool's throughout the match.

The Reds didn't show enough fight and urgency to get a goal and put pressure on the Newcastle defence. Skrtel's own goal was unfortunate but Wijnaldum shouldn't have been able to have enough space in the box to pull off a shot on goal. Newcastle's second goal was a counter attack at the end of the game that was scored by Wijnaldum to end Klopp's hope of gaining a point out of the match. Liverpool did have a goal wrongly ruled out for offside but I thought the Reds didn't deserve a goal and didn't deserve to gain a point out of the game.

A disappointing performance couldn't have come at a worse time with Spurs and the two Manchester clubs dropping points. Klopp's side could have moved within 3 points of the top 4.

Klopp's men run riot at St Mary's

Liverpool produce a stunning 6-1 win at Southampton to progress to the semi finals of the Capital One Cup where they will face Stoke City.

I thought that the Reds made a statement tonight to the rest of the teams in the premier league with this win at Southampton even with a weaker side. We came from 1-0 down inside the first minute and battled back to emphatically win. Liverpool had a weaker side which shows their strength in depth and the quality they can produce when the team needs to be rotated.
Daniel Sturridge's return to the starting line up was a real positive and also scoring 2 goals which sent a smile to every Liverpool fan. Divock Origi in my opinion was man of the match, scoring 3 goals and producing a fine display all around to help Klopp's men to a win.
The Reds are now shaping up to be a quality side under Klopp and I feel that he can lead Liverpool to many trophies. If Klopp can get his side to produce these performance at home, Liverpool can most certainly get the champions league places.
